How to stay sane during a long job search
A long search wears people down. Treating it like a project with limits, rather than an all-day emergency, makes it easier to keep going.
Set working hours
Pick a daily block for the search, such as two hours in the morning, and stop when it ends. Open-ended searching leads to scrolling, not progress.
Count what you control
You cannot control replies. You can control tailored applications sent, follow-ups sent and practice sessions done. Track those.
Keep a short daily routine
Choose one role, tailor the true parts, apply, log it, set the next action, and close the laptop. Twenty focused minutes beats three distracted hours.
Change one thing every few weeks
If nothing is working after a few weeks, change one variable: the roles you target, the resume top third or how you reach out. Then give it time.
Talk to people
Tell a friend what you are aiming for. Former coworkers are often the fastest path to an introduction, and it helps to not carry this alone.
